ABOUT
Asserting Our Narrative
In May of 2021 the world watched in shock at the latest attempts of (75 years and ongoing) Israeli occupation and apartheid aimed at ethnically cleansing indigenous Palestinians from their land.
A group of Arab-identifying photographers connected from around the world in an effort to change the narrative to more accurately reflect the reality in Palestine and the entire SWANA region, which have been harshly impacted by the imperialism and colonialism of the U.S., British, Israel, French and other countries. This website is a worldwide directory of imagemakers with Arab/SWANA roots, who create work in a range of different spaces, including but not limited to documentary, photojournalism, portrait, fashion, food, architecture, travel, and fine art.
Who is from SWANA?
Including, but not limited to, communities of the Southwest Asian and North African region, including but not limited to: Kurds, Nubians, Sudanese, Armenians, Circassians, Arabs, Iranians, Druze, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Turks, Yazidis, Azeris, Turkmen, Afghans, Copts, Imazighen, and other identities and their intersections.
